The transmitter and receiver are installed face to face. The transmitter transmits microwave signals. When the microwaves are blocked by the material, the receiver cannot receive the microwave signals or receives weak microwave signals, and the receiver outputs a relay signal.

The Radar level meters use 80 GHz radar level meters with FMCW frequency modulation continuous wave technology. The radar emits a linear frequency modulated 76-81GHz high-frequency microwave signal, which is emitted from the radar antenna. When the microwave signal encounters the surface of the medium being measured, part of its energy is reflected back by the surface of the medium and received by the radar antenna. A part of the microwave transmission signal in the radar is mixed with the received signal to obtain the difference frequency signal of the two. The difference frequency signal is subjected to Fourier transform algorithms such as FFT or DFT to obtain the difference frequency spectrum signal, thereby obtaining the frequency difference. According to the linear frequency modulation signal frequency difference is proportional to time, the time difference is obtained. Then, according to the time difference is proportional to the distance from the antenna to the surface of the medium being measured, the distance from the antenna to the surface of the medium being measured can be calculated.
